Choose the complete printable pattern for all 28 rows, or print the color chart or black-and-white letter chart separately. Each screen uses 36 stitches per row; decorations and trim are added after the main panel.

The finished width and height depend on yarn and gauge. Build the TV cabinet opening around the completed panels.

Written crochet instructions and construction notes

Read the abbreviations first, check the notes, then work through the pattern in order. Detailed steps summarize the construction; the ordered written pattern below is the source for individual rounds and rows.

Abbreviations
CH = chainSL ST = slip stitchSC = single crochetST = stitchWS = wrong sideRS = right side
TV screen chart: 36 stitches wide x 28 rows high (1,008 single crochet stitches). Use the row instructions below with the matching downloadable color or symbol chart.
US abbreviations: ch = chain, sc = single crochet, RS = right side/front of the finished picture, WS = wrong side, sl st = slip stitch. All THREE panels share a grid of 36 sc x 28 rows = 1,008 sc, before edging.
FOUNDATION: Ch 37. R01: sc in the 2nd ch from hook and every remaining chain = 36 sc. Ch 1 and turn after each row; turning chain does not count as a stitch. Do not add or decrease.
READING THE CHART: The chart is the finished picture seen from the front, left-to-right. R01 is at the BOTTOM. For a right-handed maker working flat, read ODD rows from chart RIGHT to LEFT, and EVEN rows LEFT to RIGHT. Keep a marker on the right side of the fabric. If your handedness/starting edge differs, orient it to preserve the pictured motif.
COLOR CHANGE: Each letter in a chart row = 1 sc in that color. Change yarn on the final yarn-over of the preceding stitch. Use small bobbins for separate motifs and weave tails across their own color area; do not carry long floats across the background.
ROW RUNS: A number before a letter is a consecutive run of single crochet stitches, for example 8C means 8 sc in cream. The runs below are written in the ACTUAL stitch-working direction for each row, not always the visual left-to-right chart order.
Row 01 (RS, right to left across chart): 36W (36 sc).
Row 02 (WS, left to right across chart): 36W (36 sc).

Row 26 (WS, left to right across chart): 36A (36 sc).
Row 27 (RS, right to left across chart): 36A (36 sc).
Row 28 (WS, left to right across chart): 36A (36 sc).
ROW TOTAL CHECK: 28 rows x 36 sc = 1,008 sc. Every line above must total 36; turn chains and surface embroidery are not counted.
EMBROIDER THE CONCEPT DETAILS AFTER ROW 28: In walnut yarn, embroider a short roof outline following the snow-white gable slopes (roughly columns 11-23, rows 15-22). Use straight surface stitches; do not try to crochet one-stitch roof angles. In dark yarn, backstitch the door outline around the existing dark doorway (columns 17-18, rows 8-11). The chart already includes yellow window stitches; embroider one short dark crossbar per window and a little yellow highlight only if desired. Sew 6-10 short ivory snowflake strokes on the open blue sky, and a narrow grey path below the door in the bottom snow field. Keep all accents away from the outer panel edge.
OPTIONAL TURQUOISE EDGE: Work an even round of sc around all four sides with extra stitches in corners as needed for flatness. This BORDER ADDS WIDTH AND HEIGHT; apply the same method to every screen and do not assume the existing 20x14 TV frame will fit.
FINISH: Weave in ends, lightly block flat, and measure the actual panel width and height (including any border). Use those measurements to design or resize the separate TV cabinet and its opening. Do not claim the screen fits until a real insertion/removal test succeeds.
Pattern notes

R01-R28 are listed from bottom upward; each row has 36 single crochet stitches. No increases/decreases; total 1,008 sc.

The attached AI concept photo is inspiration only; the grid is a simplified independent crochet design. Small bows, baubles, stars and windows are added by surface embroidery.

All 3 panels are IDENTICAL in grid size and border approach; colorwork complexity differs.

IMPORTANT: Previous TV body/frame draft accepts 20x14 panels. These new 36x28 picture screens will NOT fit it. Measure actual blocked screens and redesign the cabinet later.

Printable files above include the full row-by-row pattern, a color chart, and a black-and-white stitch-symbol chart. Make the screen before sizing its TV frame.

Detailed steps

Stitch-by-stitch screen instructions and finishing steps

Work the 36-stitch by 28-row color chart in US single crochet, bottom up. Each chart square is one sc. Decorative knots, bows, window detail and snowflake stitches are sewn on after crocheting; they do not change the row counts. The planned TV cabinet must be resized after measuring these panels.

Tips

Small details that make the finish better

  • Design variant: Powder-blue snowy cottage
  • Design variant: Night-sky winter cabin (re-chart colors)
  • Design variant: Frosted woodland cabin
  • Avoid pretending AI imagery is an actual crocheted sample
  • Use same yarn weight and hook for all screen cards and TV pocket
Variations

Ways to adapt the project

Change the yarn color, finishing touches, or small embellishments while keeping the same core construction.

Quick answers

Common questions before you start

What do the TV screen charts include?
Each individual picture screen has a 36-stitch x 28-row single-crochet grid with 28 exact row-by-row color-run instructions, material colors and finishing notes. Decorative details are sewn on later.
Will this screen fit the existing Retro TV cabinet draft?
Not yet. The previously drafted TV body was planned for 20x14 screens. These larger 36x28 panels require a resized cabinet and a real fit test after gauge and optional edging are measured.
Are the images proof that this crochet pattern has been tested?
No. The supplied photos are AI concept illustrations. The stitch grid has been checked mathematically, but the physical crocheting, dimensions, and TV insertion have not been tested.
Can I swap yarn colors or omit small details?
Yes. Keep the 36 stitches by 28 rows and the same yarn/hook for the three screens. Bow, ornaments, windows and snow details are optional surface-embroidery accents.
